For one day the streets of Utrecht will be coloured pink. The Giro d'Italy wil be in our town! That's why Anker & Strijbos asked writers / cycling fanatics to let themselves be inspired by a collection of pictures made on the most famous cols of Italy by by Anker & Strijbos. Seven competitors finished in front.
Photographs and stories are bundled in a special Giro-annex of Straatnieuws ('Streetnews'), paper for homeless people. Have a view online!

DeCopas means 'glasses' or 'let's go out for a drink'. It's also the name of a new importer of wine from Chile in the Netherlands. For this company we designed this logo in wich name and image of a bunch of grapes are integrated into one clear symbol.

Anker & Strijbos designs web, print, 3d and mail-outs for a series of 8 knowledge conferences organized by Hogeschool Utrecht and Syntens. The first in the series concerns 'Co-Design', a design process in which the 'user' assist in the coming about and creation of a product. Co-Design Live is particularly useful for innovative small and medium-sized enterprises as well as design firms exploring new possibilities and opportunities for their products.

Around 1950 the Netherlands counted slightly more than 100 graphic designers. 60 years later there are over 5000 people professionally active in the field of graphic design. The exhibition Dutch Design Database shows the evolution of graphic design from a trade practiced by a handful of individuals into a sector consisting of 180 offices with 5 or more employees. The database is on display at the Graphic Design Museum until 8 February 2009 and naturally features work by Anker & Strijbos!

Now and then existing brands can be a great inspiration for a new campaign. We executed a fine example of 'Brand picking' for Sport Experience Utrecht. The design of the 'Utrecht on Wheels' edition is extracted from the classic design for the Simson bicycle tyre repair tin. (Yes yes, Simson knows about our tribute;-). Sport Experience Utrecht is a series of neighborhood and city related sports events by the city of Utrecht, hosted by local sports clubs.

For a big company like TNT it is not a simple task to create attention to its Works Council elections. 60,000 full time and part time employees have to be notified of their right to vote as well as motivated and mobilized to make sure this right is being used. Anker & Strijbos developed various items to help turn the elections into a success. They designed a press and media kit to support the editorial staffs of the internal communication department of TNT. Besides this they designed posters, door hangers, buttons and throat mints (to help create a clear voice) to lure TNT employers to the election booths. The central theme of the campaign is "Speak Up" In close cooperation with JCM, that developed the communication plan and provided the textual input, we evoked democratic enthusiasm and participation.

Every two years Bis Publishers releases an encyclopedia of contemporary work of Dutch designers. This year the design was realized in cooperation with Dick Bruna. On May 11th the European Design Awards took place in Athens, Greece. Preceding this an international conference was held. Paul And Menno were present to receive a 'merit' for the visual identity for Kunstuitleen Utrecht, a regional art library, in the category 'Company Implementation'. The logo for Schouwburg Almere, a theatre, became finalist in the category 'Company Logo'. The visual identity of Kunstuitleen Utrecht has also been nominated in last year's Dutch Design Awards.

Update #1, a brochure for visual artist Caspar Berger is selected for the annual Selected A, graphic Design from Europe. Caspar was one of the guests at a meeting with the Pope in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican on November 21st 2009. In order to present his work in Rome Casper approached Anker & Strijbos to design a printed summary of his self portraits. 'Caspar Berger, Update #1' is a special edition in which the monumental work of Casper fully blossoms due to excellent photography and a clear design approach. The publication is bound with an exercise-book stitch and has pages with an uneven width. A special insert folder protects the publication.

Cultuurnacht Almere, a nightly cultural extravaganza in the city of Almere, experienced it's third edition. Our clients Schouwburg Almere, Restaurant Waterfront and other cultural institutes in the city centre of Almere were the setting for the official kickoff of a very promising new cultural season. Once again all publicity materials were created and fitted into a new design concept by Anker & Strijbos.

For the new theater production Maandag editie by Aluin we were able to express our deep admiration and love for the graphic trade, a craft which is quickly becoming extinct. Ankerxstrijbos used posters and flyers to spread their message.

Three logos by ankerxstrijbos have been selected for this year’s European Logo Design Annual. The logos for Kunstuitleen Utrecht and Fashion Lab as well as the logo series for Restaurant de Lindenhof have been documented as "Award Winners". Selection came about by a jury consisting of designers, clients and the public.

Anker & Strijbos was rewarded an honorable mention at the Dutch Visual Identity Award for the visual Identity of Restaurant Waterfront. Quoted from the Jury report: "The visual identity of Restaurant Waterfront breathes self-confidence, thoughtfulness and a fresh approach". Besides this the identity was found surprising and was recognized for being a very strong icon.
Out of 132 submissions 7 honorable mentions were awarded, the final award was presented to the visual identity of the Dutch socialist party.
